Jeanne-marie's Dresser Caddy Site

(Home Page)

This web site is devoted to one of my favorite subjects, men's figural ceramic dresser caddies. Popular in use in the 1950's and 1960's, these whimsical decorating pieces are becoming quite popular today as collectibles. There are caddy collectors all over the country but few resources to do research on these intriguing pieces. What this site intends to do is to present several pieces under the following headings: Wild Animals; Water Animals; Pets; People; Transportation; and Specialty Caddies.
What is a dresser caddy, you ask? Well, a dresser caddy is a place where a man could put his pocket items for overnight keeping. Typically, they have a deep rectangular pocket on the side or back for a wallet, one or two smaller pockets for change and keys and such, and a protrusion pointing upward on which to hang a watch or ring. Sometimes they are flat with shallow depressions for the pocket items, but most typically they are more three dimensional.
All the represented caddies are ceramic caddies, made in the 1950's and 1960's, some with more history than others, some with known makers and some made by unknown pottery makers. But all of the caddies are unique. Each has its own personality and message to share. I try to impart a little bit of information about each caddy shown to the viewer for extra help in identification. Any caddies that have more information have an asterisk (*) and can be found on the reference page with a click. So enjoy your viewing. Thanks for taking the time to view the collection of dresser caddies. Hope you find some things you like!
